This page describes how Vigil uses cookies and similar technologies, what choices you have, and how to change them at any time.
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Cookies let the site remember things about your visit — such as your preferred language or your authentication session — so you don't have to re-enter them on every page. We also use localStorage in your browser for the same purposes when it is more appropriate (for example, to remember your onboarding progress).
Categories of cookies we use
Essential cookies: required for Vigil to work. These remember your language, keep you logged in, and store your cookie preference itself. Without them the site cannot function correctly. These do not require consent under GDPR/ePrivacy. Analytics and performance cookies (optional): help us understand how Vigil is used so we can improve it. Currently Vigil does not load third-party analytics or advertising cookies. This section will be updated if that changes.

Managing your preferences
When you first visit Vigil you are asked to choose between "Accept all" and "Only essential". You can change your choice at any time from this page, or by clearing your browser's cookies for this site. Choosing "Only essential" disables any optional analytics we may add in the future. Essential cookies cannot be turned off because they are required for the site to work.

Third parties
Vigil is hosted on Vercel and uses Supabase for authentication and data storage. These providers may set essential cookies (for example, to keep you logged in or to load balance requests) as part of delivering the service. We do not share data with advertising networks.
